IP / PROCESS
From a question to a procedure.
Explore how a trademark, invention or infringement matter is organised. These process guides explain documents, stages, the relevant authority and the role of a qualified patent attorney within the procedure.
- 01
Asset and ownership
Identify what needs protection: a name, logo, technical solution, product appearance, documentation or confidential know-how. Establish who created it, who acquired the rights and which agreements document ownership.
- 02
Disclosure and dates
Organise the dates of publications, presentations, sales, filings and service of documents. This identifies novelty risks, possible priority claims and urgent procedural steps.
- 03
Searches and territory
Search the relevant registers and technical literature, then select the markets where protection is needed. Assessing whether protection is obtainable and assessing freedom to operate answer different questions.
- 04
Documents and authority
Prepare the appropriate application or dispute documents: a goods and services specification, claims, illustrations, an evidence schedule or an agreement. Identify the competent authority and the representative’s actual authority to act.
- 05
Proceedings and responses
Review communications from the office and other parties, address deficiencies and submit arguments and evidence. Settlement, narrowing the scope and changing strategy may each be separate, informed decisions.
- 06
Maintenance and enforcement
A decision may be followed by fees, renewals, recordals, monitoring and arrangements for using the right. A refusal or dispute requires a separate assessment of available remedies, legal grounds and time limits.
THE KNOWLEDGE MAP
One product. Several kinds of protection.
A name, a technical solution and a product's appearance raise different questions. Start with the asset you are creating, then examine the rights, evidence and decisions around it.
Trademarks
Names, logos and the identity behind a product.
02 / IPPatents & inventions
Technical solutions, evidence and disclosure decisions.
03 / IPProduct design
The appearance that makes a product recognisable.
04 / IPCopyright & software
Creative expression, code and the rights chain.
05 / IPKnow-how & confidentiality
Information that needs practical boundaries.
06 / IPIP strategy
Connect protection choices with the business plan.
IP / FRAMEWORK
Give your next decision a clear starting point.
Useful IP preparation begins with an organised description of the business. These three steps make the next conversation more focused.
- 01
Map the asset
Describe the name, technology, design, content or confidential information. Record who created it and where the supporting files are kept.
- 02
Define the context
List intended markets, planned publications, collaborators and launch commitments. An IP decision needs a commercial and technical setting.
- 03
Check the right sources
Use official registers and guidance to frame the question. For an assessment of a specific case, verify a qualified professional's credentials and scope of work.

Start with a clear answer.
What is Rekel Patent?
Rekel Patent is an intellectual-property information website published by Vadym Rekel. Its guides explain rights, documents, procedures and the roles of the relevant offices and courts.
Does a free domain mean a brand name is safe to use?
No. Domain availability, company-name registration and trademark rights answer different questions. A name review should consider earlier signs, relevant goods or services, intended territories and the specific circumstances of use.
Should I publish my invention before considering a patent?
Public disclosure can affect novelty. Before publishing technical material, assess the proposed disclosure and filing plans with a qualified professional. If material has already been shared, preserve the exact version, date and audience; its effect needs case-specific assessment.
Can software be protected by a patent in Europe?
The European Patent Convention excludes computer programs as such. Computer-implemented inventions can require a different assessment involving technical character and the other patentability requirements. Neither every program nor every useful algorithm is automatically patentable.
Does an EU trademark protect a brand worldwide?
An EU trademark has a territorial scope within the European Union. Protection elsewhere needs separate consideration. The appropriate route depends on intended markets, the sign, the offering and the wider rights position.
